We had so much fun this week!
You have found our classroom website where you will continually find all things you need to know about Room 11 Kids! Check here each Friday afternoon for the latest news
The best ways to reach me are by email at email@example.com or via Remind. My classroom phone number is (503) 431-4541. My cell phone is 503-313-1925. I do not answer the phone or check email during class time, so if you have an immediate need or message for your child during school hours, please call the office at (503) 431-4500.
Your child will have recess every day. Please make sure that he or she has appropriate clothing for hot and cold temperatures, and raincoats for the rain. No umbrellas please.
Parent Pick Up Signs
If you pick up your child from school at the end of the day via car or walking, please check your child’s backpack today. Inside you will find a sign with your child’s name and instructions on the back for how to use it. Our goal is to make parent pick up as efficient as possible. First grade is the second grade level to be excused each day. Thank you!
I don’t want your entire evening spent doing homework but consistent practice helps children develop their skills.
•Students are asked to complete 15 minutes of reading a night out loud to an adult who can encourage, correct and help the student practice reading fluency.
Blue Take Home Folders
The folders are labeled “Take Home Folder” and will be sent home each day containing your child’s school work for the day. Please return the empty folder to school with your child each day.
All students at Durham are expected to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. As a class, we continually celebrate these behaviors as a means of promoting a caring environment, conducive to learning. I believe in caring, respect, and structure where students are allowed to make good choices. I use a variety of management strategies such as PAX tickets, Love and Logic, PAX Good Behavior Program, Responsive Classroom and preventative redirection.
Students may not bring birthday treats to school due to a growing number of students who have food allergies. We will recognize your child in the classroom with lots of fun events.
Lost and Found
Be sure to label lunch boxes, water bottles, and outerwear with your child’s first and last name. We do not officially have a lost and found area. Items are left where found to prevent contact.
If your child is going home another way than they usually do, we must have a note or communication to the office.

In the Classroom
iPads come back to school
When students bring their ipads back to school, they will be issued a new, updated ipad. Please keep chargers at home.
Please send a water bottle to school daily. It is great to have one with a straw or nozzle that its under masks.
Students can bring a small snack from home that they can eat just before first recess. It should be something that they can easily open themselves.
While still social distancing, kids are now permitted to remove their masks when playing outside. What a treat! Students are encouraged to keep an extra mask in their backpacks.
I am so excited to teach your first grader this year! I feel so fortunate to be able to see them each day.
Go to www.getepic.com/students. Enter EPIC code xxv9133. Select your name!
