I'm so busy with your first grader that I am unable to answer my phone during school hours.  If you need to get a message to me or your student, just give the front office a call.  If you leave a message or email, I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Bus/Pick Up Notes
If your child will have a change in his or her typical after school schedule, it is essential that you write me a note, or call the office so I can make sure your first grader gets home the right way.  This includes times when your child will:
  • Ride a different bus to a friends house
  • Ride the same bus but get off at a different stop
  • Get picked up from school instead of riding the bus (even if it is Mom or Dad picking up)
  • Get picked up by a person other than a parent or someone on your school pick up list you gave to the office

If I do not have a note specifying the change, I will send your child home according to the usual routine.

Birthdays
Although we do not celebrate with birthday treats from home, we have a special birthday song moment with help from our puppets Big Blue or Quackers.  We have a cool birthday bag filled with treats to take home, get to wear a special hat and choose the birthday video clip of the day.

Snack
We have snack time everyday.  Students who wish to enjoy a snack in the morning should pack one in their
lunch bag or backpack.

Expectations

Each student is expected to be safe, kind, responsible, and PAX Leaders in our classroom.  Students who follow these expectations will earn PAX TIX (replacing Gotchas).  Students will get to spend these PAX TIX on Wednedays for prizes from my prize store at lunch.

I will also choose a Fantastic First Grader each week.  To be chosen as the Fantastic First Grader, the student must meet these criteria:
  • I am at school on time everyday.
  • I am safe, kind, and responsible.
  • I follow directions the first time.
  • I listen to the speaker.
  • I do my best work.
  • I have a clean workspace.
  • I treat others kindly and with respect.
  • Most importantly, I am a PAX Leader!

Homework
Two math sheets and a two sided reading log will come home every Monday in a folder marked "HOMEWORK".  Do all the work inside throughout the week and return it to school on Friday.  If kids do their math and one side of the reading log, they get one PAX TIX.  If they do all of their math and both sides of their reading log, the get TWO PAX TIX.  Kids are digging the PAX TIX!
Friday Folder
Friday Folders include all of your child's wonder work!  Take the work out and enjoy with your child and send the folder back to school on Monday for a refill.  Beginning 9/20.

Can you volunteer?
Reading Block Superheroes 9:55-10:30
I am looking for consistent volunteers Monday through Friday during our reading block.  These volunteers would:
  • Guide small group reading and activities.
  • Listen to students read one at a time.
  • Help with student focus.
  • Prep for other activities.

Art Literacy Specialist....have one and would love another!  GOT IT!!!
This fabulous volunteer would:
  • Attend a monthly class to learn about the spotlighted artist.
  • Schedule class time to teach an art project.
  • Show up with an infectious smile to teach the project.
  • Clean up after the messy art project.
Superhero Sidekicks
Every Super Hero should have a sidekick.  These are volunteers who are able to:
  • ***Stuff Friday Folders.  (This is done the last day of the school week.)
  • ***Stuff Homework folders.  (This is done the first day of the school week.)...Filled!  Thank you!
  • Do prep work for activities.
  • Design and hang up bulletin boards.
  • Correct papers.
  • Organize and supervise at class parties.
  • Sort papers and piles. :D
So the question is:  Are you interested?  If you would like one of these volunteer opportunities, be sure to sign up on the schedule at the back table.  If you want to consider it a little longer, just let me know when you decide.
